San Diego

During July Jeff and I drove to San Diego for a little get away. We stayed in a wonderful condo in the Gaslamp District, the "historic heart of San Diego", right across from PetCo Park. Yet again this year, the Padres were not in town while we were there, much to Jeff's disappointment. However, we did manage to have a wonderful and relaxing time.

One of the first things we did was drive to Point Loma and check out the tide pools. The ocean was beautiful. We even saw some seals swimming around.

There were lots of cool little nooks and crannies to explore, and there is a great hike that we took around the Point that was really fun. The highlight for Jeff was watching two Navy submarines come in to port.

We took a two hour cruise around the harbor one of the days. And no, we didn't see any whales, but we did see a lot of seals and sea lions. It was really fun and interesting. Jeff especially loves this kind of thing.
He loves seeing all the navy ships and hearing about what they do.
I snapped this picture as the boat passed under the Coronado bridge.
Again with the city skyline in the background. Jeff wouldn't sit down the whole two hours. He loved being at the front of the boat with the wind blowing (or whipping) through his hair. So that will explain why my hair was completely ruined the whole day.....
We loved just sitting on a bench at Harbor Island and watching the sailboats and joggers. On this day we lucked out and there was a special sailing event going on, so there were over a hundred sailboats in the harbor. It was quite a sight.

Of course we had to visit Old Town. We were disappointed that the Mormon Batalion museum was being renovated so we couldn't visit that. But everything else was great. We took a city tour that was really fun and went to all the local sites: Balboa Park, Little Italy, the Gaslamp District, Seaport Village, and Old Town.
Our last day there we did a session at the San Diego Temple, one of our favorites. It is so beautiful inside and out. It was a great ending to our stay there.
We had a wonderful time together, and almost hated to come home. The weather was so perfect, never getting over 78 degrees. It made us want to move there!
