There were never such devoted sisters.......

Who can name the movie my title came from??
A few weeks ago, my sister Shelley and her husband Rand came down to visit. We used to visit each other frequently when all our kids were little, but it has been a while since they have been down for just a visit. Now that we are both empty nesters, it was kind of different, but still we had lots of fun and I have decided we need to do this more often. Friday night they came to a ballgame with with us and helped us cheer for the Pirates. Then we came home and made quesadillas and stayed up too late. Saturday we decided to go to the big city for Valentines Day and go out to dinner. We went in early enough that Shell and I could do a little shopping, which was fun. I discovered that she is much worse than I am when it comes to making a decision........"should I buy this one or that one???" (and then she would usually not buy either one) We had fun though, and both managed to make a few purchases while our husbands waited somewhat patiently. We took them to The District, which was a lot of fun with all the white twinkly lights and the horse drawn carriage.
While we didn't actually ride in the horse drawn carriage, we did pose by it. But here's the dumb thing, we took pictures of them with their camera, and they took pictures of us with our camera, but at no time did we take pictures of them with our camera. So not too many pictures to document our fun time.

The one picture we have with all of us in it was in front of the restaurant we ate at, which was very good.

There was a live band there that we listened to for awhile before we left. You will have to take my word for it that the Webbs had a great time, since I don't have any pictures to prove it.
Sunday after church we had a movie and treats marathon, since they had not seen two of our favorite movies, Sarendipity and Transformers. Although Shell can't actually say that she saw Transformers, since she was snoring quite loudly throughout most of it! They had to leave Monday morning, but we sure enjoyed having them and hope they'll come again soon!
P.S. The movie is one of our favorites, White Christmas.

Popcorn Popping

I don't want to make any of you that are still shoveling the snow feel too bad, but this is how it looks in the quad area of our school. The popcorn is popping, and the trees are so pretty! If it's any consolation though, they really stink!

If you look closely, you can even see the bees buzzing around. Seriously this is a beautiful day. But yeah, you all can make fun of us during the summer when we are sweltering................

The Way We Were

This was Jeff with the cake I made him for our first Valentine's Day together after we were married. If you're wondering about his get up, he was going off and leaving me to go play church basketball. What a romantic evening.............

Pay It Forward

Being as how this is National Random Acts of Kindness Week, this is quite an appropriate time to do this post. I am now committed to sending something handmade to three people. You may have seen this on someone else's blog, but here's how it works:

Be one of the first three people to leave a comment, and I will send you something handmade in the next three months. You get to pay it forward by doing the same thing on your blog for three people. Once you leave a comment saying you're interested, you need to make a post on your blog within one day.

Think of how happy you can make someone by sending them something special made by you! Who's game?

Weekend Get-A-Way

Back in January we went on little weekend retreat to my friend's cabin in the snow country and I never had time to do a post about it, so I am back tracking a little to show you a couple of pictures we took while there. We were supposed to meet my parents and siblings there for our annual dinner together, and when my good friend heard we were headed that direction she offered to let us stay in her cabin. It is really a nice little place, and we ended up having a great time just reading by the fire and staying up late watching movies. The next morning we threw some feed out for the wild turkeys and they came and gave us quite a show. The dinner didn't really happen because everyone was afraid it was going to snow (it didn't) and didn't dare come.
Okay, it actually did snow for about two seconds while we took this picture, then the sky cleared, the sun came out, and it never snowed again. But it was COLD!

We spent the day there visiting some old familiar places. This is Jeff in front of the new bell tower at the college.

And this is me in front of our old digs "Eloise Apartments." This was the very first place we lived in after we got married. I can't believe the building is still there!

It was disappointing that we didn't get to see everyone and have dinner, but we had a great time anyway. We did get to meet Rod and Kim and have a nice dinner with them, so all was not lost. It turned out to be a nice little get-a-way!

Finding Joy In the Journey

Last week was my Relief Society lesson on President Monson's talk "Finding Joy In the Journey." It was a great topic, and one that I love. I try to notice the little things and find joy in them, because the BIG things that bring us joy are few and far between. I think so many things that could bring us moments of joy go unoticed by us in our busy lives. I took my beautiful Amarilis to put on the table during my lesson. I plant one each year at Christmas, and sometimes they are just okay, or even duds that don't ever bloom. But this year, it was so gorgeous that I took a picture of it the other day. Sadly, they don't last long, but while they bloom they bring me joy!
Seriously, Have you ever seen anything so beautiful? Every day when I get home from work I go look at it and get happy!

Albert Einstein said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is." Guys, take time to stop and notice the everyday miracles in your lives!
